A Statement in Solidarity with the Black Community

The Sexual Violence Center (SVC) joins others across the state, the nation, and our world to express our outrage over the murder of George Floyd, while in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department. We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at another Black life lost by the use of force by police officers. This has happened for more than 400 years. We cannot wait for change to happen, we must demand change NOW!

SVC’s mission is to end sexual violence in our communities. SVC recognizes that sexual violence is connected to other social justice struggles. We believe that we cannot end sexual violence unless we address racial injustice. SVC seeks to uphold racial equality and oppose racism in all forms. We believe that challenging systems is one way to end oppression and dismantle white supremacy.

SVC stands in solidarity with the Black community in demanding and creating change. We are committed to doing more work to disrupt racism and advocate for systemic reforms, in regard to racism and oppression.
